Stat Line Of The Night — 6/25/12 — Matt Latos
The Cincinnati Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers were expected to battle it out with one another for top spot in the National League Central in 2012, but three months into the season the Brewers have failed to live up to those expectations, as they ranked fourth in the division heading into last night’s game, six-and-a-half games back of the first-place Reds.
Cincinnati was looking to increase that gap between themselves and their foes from Wisconsin, and they would do just that, thanks to a terrific performance from starting pitcher Matt Latos.
Latos entered the game with victories in each of his last five decision, and he would make it six victories in a row following last night’s performance, as he allowed only four hits and one earned run while striking out 13 batters over nine inning of work. He was also quite impressive at the plate – for a pitcher – as he recorded two hits in three at bats during the Reds’ 3-1 victory.
With the win, the Reds maintain their two-game lead over the Pirates and Cardinals, while increasing their lead over the fourth-place Brewers to seven-and-a-half games. As for Latos, he improved his record to 6-2 on the season, and he earned himself “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, June 25, 2012.
