Nastia Liukin’s Gymnastics Career Ends With Face-Plant On Uneven Bars (GIF)
Well, if you were looking for someone to root against at the upcoming Summer Olympics, we’ve got your man. His name is Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad. He’s a 27-year-old Algerian-born Frenchman, and he a big huge douche-wad.
What makes us say that? Well on Sunday at the European Track and Field Championships in Helsinki, after Mekhissi-Benabbad won the gold in the 3000 meter steeplechase, he decided to celebrate by bullying a mascot…who was, in fact, a 14-year-old girl.
Oops!
After he won the race, the girl, dressed as the event’s mascot, “Appy” (whatever that’s supposed to be), approached Mekhissi-Benabbad and offered him some official “Appy” merchandise—a pillow, or something. But the ill-tempered Frenchman slaps the mini-Appy out of big Appy’s hand, then uses both arms to give big Appy a shove.
Check it out for yourself. It’s ridiculous.
You want to know the really crazy thing, though? This wasn’t Mekhissi-Benabbad’s first run-in with a mascot. At the 2010 European Championships, he pulled a similar stunt:
Obviously, this guy’s got something against mascots. Of course, the French will probably choose this guy to be their flag-bearer at the opening ceremonies in London, just to piss off the rest of the world.
