D-Backs Game Halted When Paper Airplane Lands On Home Plate (Video)
The Arizona Diamondbacks surprised a lot of people by winning the N.L. West by 8 games last season with a record of 94-68. But this year? Yeah, things aren’t going so well.
The team currently sits 5 1/2 games back of the Giants and 6 game back of the Dodgers, having lost 5 in a row. Last year’s team MVP, Justin Upton, is hitting just .263 right now and is on pace to hit only 14 home runs while striking out 144 times.
So it’s understandable that the Diamondbacks fans at Chase Field would try to distract themselves from the terrible play on the field with some non-baseball-related activities. And at last night’s game between the D-Backs and Padres, one of those bored fans managed to achieve a very rare feat.
Namely, he or she constructed and threw a paper airplane that landed right on home plate.
With the game tied 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning, play was momentarily halted right before an 0-2 pitch when said paper airplane landed at the feet of Padres batter Yasmani Grandal. Check it out:
Pretty good way to distract the opposing team’s batter, right?
Yeah, you probably would have figured that much. However, Grandal went on to smack a two-run homer on the very next pitch, which proved to be the winning runs.
After that debacle, I guess you can say that the D-Backs playoff hopes are crashing just as fast as a paper airplane at Chase Field.
