1990 mlb all-star gameIt was on this day in 1990 that the MLB All-Star Game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago.  The American League would go on to win the 61st Midsummer Classic by a score of 2-0.

The American League won one of the lower scoring games in All-Star Game history, thanks to some great pitching from the likes of Bob Welch, Roger Clemens, Bret Saberhagen (who was credited with the win) and Dennis Eckersley (who earned the save).  The AL pitchers only allowed two hits against, while their Julio Franco’s double off Rob Dibble in the seventh proved to be enough offense for help them escape with the victory, while earning Franco MVP honors.

Interestingly, this was the first All-Star Game to include two players with the same name (Orioles pitcher Gregg Olsen, and Braves catcher Greg Olsen).  It also experienced a rain delay in the seventh inning, causing CBS to air an episode of Rescue 911.

Here is a look at Julio Franco signing some autographs.
