Stat Line Of The Night — 7/15/12 — Yovani Gallardo
The Minnesota Twins entered last night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles having lost five in a row. During that five game stretch, they had managed to score a total of 16 runs. On Monday night, they needed only one game to surpass that total, as the Twins’ offense exploded for a 19 runs during their thrashing of the Orioles.
Leading the way for the Twins was none other than their lead-off hitter, Denard Span, as he recorded a single, two doubles and a walk in his five plate appearances. We would also score two runs, while driving in another five, as the Twins cruised to the 19-7 victory.
In addition to snapping their five-game losing streak, that impressive offensive performance from the Twins also helps them move into the top half of the league in runs scored. Span should receive a majority of the praise for their impressive output on the night, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, July 16, 2012.
