Stat Line Of The Night — 7/26/12 — Jason Vargas

by: JamieD On  Friday, July 27, 2012

jason vargasAs a pitcher for the Seattle Mariners, Jason Vargas knows that each time he steps on the mound during one of his scheduled starts, there is a good chance he won’t receive much run support.  After all, his team has scored just 395 runs in 101 games thus far this season (and average of 3.9 runs per game), which ranks them 24th in the entire MLB.

During last night’s game against the Kansas City Royals, the Mariners reached their average scoring output, as they recorded four runs on the evening.  That turned out to be more than enough for Vargas on this occasion, as he allowed just one hit, three walks and one earned run while striking out five over eight solid innings of work, leading the Mariners to the 4-1 victory.

With the win, Vargas improves his record to 11-7 on the season, while lowering his ERA to 3.76.  And he also earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, July 26, 2012,
