Stat Line Of The Night — 7/31/12 — A.J. Burnett
Stat Line Of The Night — 8/1/12 — Matt Holliday
On Tuesday night the St. Louis Cardinals cashed in a total of 11 runs during their first game of a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. They were scoring runs in bunches once again last night, and no Cardinals player was taking advantage of the thin Denver air more than left fielder Matt Holliday.
In four plate appearances, Holliday managed to record two home runs, a single and five RBIs during the Cards’ 9-6 victory. His first homer of the night was a two-run shot in the first inning, which gave the Cardinals the 2-0 lead. He would follow that up with another home run in the seventh, but this time it was a three-run shot that gave the Cards the 6-5 lead, and they wouldn’t surrender it again from there.
Following last night’s performance, Holliday is now batting an impressive .325, with 21 home runs and 75 RBIs this season. Those numbers should get him plenty of consideration for NL MVP honors, but for now he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, August 1, 2012.
