German Weightlifter Matthias Steiner Drops 432 Pounds On His Head At Olympics (GIF)
Weightlifting is supposed to be one of the many non-contact sports taking place at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, but today it was anything but a non-contact sport for German weightlifter Matthias Steiner.
You see, Steiner entered the men’s over 105kg weightlifting event as the defending Olympic champion, but during his second lift of the snatch portion of the competition, he stumbled while attempting to lift 196 kilograms (432 pounds), causing the bar to land square on the back of his neck before crushing his body into a pretzel.
Steiner proved that he is one tough dude by walking off the platform under his own power and waving to the crowd following this disastrous moment, but not even that level of toughness was enough to keep him in the competition, as he didn’t come out for his third attempt and had to be taken to the hospital for x-rays, bring his dream of back-to-back Olympic gold medals to a crashing halt.
