The Olympics have a way of radically transforming the lives of athletes. One month a 17-year swimmer can walk down the street and nobody knows who she is. The next she’s a bona fide celebrity appearing on cereal boxes and doing interviews on the Today Show.
Of course, not every Olympian needs success at the Games to make them feel like a celebrity. Some of them feel like celebrities every time they look in the mirror—because they already have celebrity doppelgängers.
And that’s the list we have for you today: 15 athletes from the 2012 Summer Olympics who have celebrity look-alikes. Some are more uncanny than others, but there’s a definite resemblance with each pair. So, you know, take a look.
Kerri Walsh and Laura Linney aren't dead ringers, but they could definitely pass for sisters. The more attractive one, of course, is the movie star. But the jock gets the last laugh: I'd take 2 gold medals (and maybe a 3rd, but at least a silver, still to come) over 3 Oscar nominations any day.
15. Kerri Walsh – Laura Linney
Am I stretching it a bit to say Usain Bolt looks like Puff Daddy, Puffy, P. Diddy, Diddy Dirty Money, or whatever Sean Combes is calling himself these days? Perhaps. But you have to imagine Bolt wearing sunglasses.
Of course, if you saw them in person, there's no way to could mistake one for the other. Bolt is 6'5" and with one of the greatest athletic physiques of all time. Diddy...well, he's doesn't have that going for him. He is a runner, though.
14. Usain Bolt – P. Diddy
Team USA's surprise gymnastics star Aly Raisman, winner of 2 gold medals and 1 bronze, sort of looks like comedian Sarah Silverman from the side. Both have thin lips and noses that are kind of pointy. However, only one of them used to date Jimmy Kimmel. (It was Silverman. Raisman is only 18, so that would have been weird.)
13. Aly Raisman – Sarah SIlverman
Nathan Adrian won gold in Beijing at the age of 19 in the 4x100m relay. This year, at the age of 23, he's won 2 more golds (100m and 4x100m medley) and 1 silver (4x100m freestyle). His quasi-doppelgänger is Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who pretty much can't go wrong these days, thanks to getting in good with director Christopher Nolan. Not only was the guy in Nolan's Inception and The Dark Knight Rises, but he's soon to appear in another action flick co-staring the legendary Bruce Willis.
12. Nathan Adrian – Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Italian volleyball player Francesca Piccinini topped our list of hottest Olympians at the 2012 Summer Olympics a few weeks back, not so much because she was hands-down the best looking female athletes at the Games (that's so subjective), but because the photo of her lying on the ground with nothing but her birthday suit and a volleyball is ridiculously amazing. And in that photo, she could pass for Mrs. Tom Brady herself, Giselle Bundchen.
11. Francesca Piccinini – Giselle Bundchen
I think even if Andrew Garfield actually was Spiderman, and he came swooping into London by attaching his web right to the Tower Bridge and swinging across the Thames, he would still not be more popular than Andy Murray right now. That's because, on Sunday, Murray (who is from Scotland) won tennis gold for Team GB, defeating Switzerland's Roger Federer at the All-England Tennis Club in a rematch of the 2012 Wimbledon final.
10. Andy Murray – Andrew Garfield
Who the heck is Gurbaj Singh? He's a 23-year-old Indian field hockey player. And, strangely enough, in his official Olympic profile picture he looks like James Marsden of such films as X-Men, Enchanted, and Hairspray. Unfortunately, looking like an actor hasn't helped Singh get his team into contention for the gold of silver medal—his team is 0-5.
9. Gurbaj Singh – James Marsden
A lot of people have said said American swimmer Ryan Lochte looks like Channing Tatum. However, I think he looks like a slightly younger and much more physically fit Jason Segel. (You're welcome, Jason Segel, for the comparison.) Unfortunately, Lochte was a "disappointment" in the pool this year, "only" bringing home 2 golds, 2 silvers, and 1 bronze. What a loser.
8. Ryan Lochte – Jason Segel
Andy Roddick was the number 1 player in the for a brief period back in 2003. Then Roger Federer came along...and Rafael Nadal...and Novak Djokovic, and he hasn't won squat since. And that trend continued at the Olympics this year: Roddick didn't even sniff the podium, losing to 4th place finisher Djokovic in the second round. But hey, at least Andy still looks like Stiffler—a.k.a. Sean William Scott.
7. Andy Roddick – Sean William Scott
Everyone's favorite 30-year-old virgin Olympian looks so much like Rashida Jones that, given the last name, I actually thought the two might be sisters. Of course, they're not. Rashida (who recently starred with Ryan Lochte's look-alike in The Muppets) is the daughter of legendary music producer Quincy Jones, while Lolo is from Iowa and has regular, not-rich and famous parents. Oh well.
Unfortunately, all the abstinence didn't help Lolo win that elusive Olympic medal. (That's why she's a virgin, right? Because she thinks it helps her win?) Though she was the favorite in 2008, she tripped on the second-last hurdle and finished 7th. And this year she just barely missed the podium again, finishing 4th.
6. Lolo Jones – Rashida Jones
Michael Phelps is the most-decorated Olympian of all time, with 18 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals. In the looks department, however, he's like a caricature of John Krasinski from The Office. But I'm sure Phelps still does better than Krasinki ever did with the ladies (he's married to Emily Blunt now, hence the past tense), because chicks love a champion.
5. Michael Phelps – John Krasinski
French soccer player Laure Boulleau will go for Bronze against Team Canada tomorrow. This is ironic, because Boulleau's celebrity look-alike is none other than legendary Canadian hottie Elisha Cuthbert. But regardless of weather Boulleau's team or Cuthbert's compatriots win bronze tomorrow, both of these gorgeous women have already won gold...in our hearts.
4. Laure Boulleau – Elisha Cuthbert
American swimmer Natalie Couglin looks a lot like Miley Cyrus, despite the fact that the former is 10 years older than the latter. Of course, looks is where the similarities end with these two. Coughlin has 12 Olympic medals, including 3 golds, over the course of three Olympic Games. Cyrus, on the other hand, is just the daughter of a one-hit wonder who can barely sing.
3. Natalie Coughlin – Miley Cyrus
Though you wouldn't know if from this picture, Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer is like a better-looking version of Inglorious Basterds director Quentin Tarantino. And the similarities don't stop with their looks. Both of these guys have won gold in the past—Federer at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Tarantino at the 1995 Academy Awards.
2. Roger Federer – Quentin Tarantino
Ginobili was already a huge star in Argentina thanks to his success in the NBA. However, when he led Argentina to the gold medal in basketball at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens? That made him a national hero. Unfortunately, Ginobili can sometimes resemble one of the world's craziest political leaders: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
