Stat Line Of The Night — 8/7/12 — Cole Hamels
Stat Line Of The Night — 8/8/12 — Giancarlo Stanton
The Miami Marlins rank an abysmal 29th in the league in runs scored this season, but their offense was certainly alive and well during last night’s thrashing of the New York Mets, and it was being led by none other than their slugging right-fielder, Giancarlo Stanton.
Stanton stepped up to the plate five times during last night’s game, and he made the most of four of those opportunities. It all started in the first inning, when he hit a two-run homer to left-center field, giving the Marlins the 3-0 lead. After recording a double in the fourth inning, he would hit his second homer of the night in the fifth inning, another two-run shot to left field. When it was all said and done, Stanton would finish the game with a single, a double, two homers, two runs scored, and four RBIs, as the Marlins cruised to the 13-0 victory.
As a result of that impressive performance at the plate, Stanton now has 21 home runs and 55 RBIs on the season, and he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, August 8, 2012.
