The Daily Gambling Fix — 8/10/12 — Heather Rea
The Game: Cleveland Browns @ Detroit Lions
The Reason: During last year’s NFL preseason, the Detroit Lions finished with an impressive 4-0 record, as they outscored their opponents by 67 points. Starting quarterback Matthew Stafford and backup Shaun Hill were key factors in the Lions’ preseason success in 2011, as Stafford finished with a quarterback rating of 154.7 in his four starts, while Shaun Hill had a 113.6 quarterback rating in his four preseason appearances. And now the Lions add Kellen Moore to the mix, and the Boise State alum should prove to be a very capable third-string quarterback. With the Browns dealing with injuries (RB Trent Richardson and DB Joe Haden) and a rookie starting at quarterback, look for the Lions to take advantage and come away with the win, and the cover.
The Game: Minnesota Vikings @ San Francisco 49ers
The Reason: The San Francisco 49ers are coming off a season that saw them fall inches short of reaching the Super Bowl, while the Minnesota Vikings are in rebuilding mode and are dealing with an injury to their start running back, Adrian Peterson. The 49ers are probably itching to get back onto the field after losing to the Giants in overtime of last year’s NFC Championship Game, and they should take any leftover frustration out on the Vikings. When it comes to getting players motivated to play, few NFL coaches are better than Jim Harbaugh, and oftentimes, that is the difference during these meaningless preseason games. With that being said, we expect the 49ers to come out hard and dominate the Vikings from start to finish tonight.
2012 Record: (136-136-11), This Week: (5-3), Last Week: (2-6)
