Stat Line Of The Night — 8/9/12 — R.A. Dickey
Stat Line Of The Night — 8/12/12 — Kevin Durant
The USA men’s basketball team entered the final day of the 2012 Olympic Games with a perfect 7-0 record, but despite their dominating performance up to that point, a loss to Spain in Sunday’s final would still make their visit to London an epic failure. With all of that pressure staring them in the face, Mike Krzyzewski’s team of NBA superstars didn’t crack, as they rode a gold medal performance from Kevin Durant to the top of the podium.
Team USA has a plethora of players that they can rely on to come through in the clutch (Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, to name just a few), but on this day it was Durant leading the way, as he recorded 30 points to go along with nine rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal. A total of 15 of his points came from beyond the arc, as the Thunder superstar was 5-for-13 from three-point land during the USA’s 107-100 victory.
Spain was able to keep things interesting throughout the entire game, but in the end it was Durant’s outside shooting and some solid drives through the lane from LeBron and Chris Paul that sealed the gold for the Americans. Durant may have come up just short in the NBA Finals, but he didn’t let it happen to him again at the Olympic Games, as he earns the gold and “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, August 12, 2012.
