Another Epic Rally Car Crash Off The Side Of A Mountain During The Pikes Peak Hill Climb (Video)
We’re all supposed to think motor sports crashes are terrible and tragic. But everyone knows that, secretly, we love them. They are why a lot of us even watch motor sports to begin with. I mean, we love crashes and explosions in movies, so it’s gotta be even better in real life, right? Sure, there’s the human side to things—you know, the fact that sometimes people die. But hey, cheating death (or not) is also part of the excitement.
This brings us to the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. No other event in the world of motor sports offers the potential for catastrophic crashes like this event does. That’s because, as you probably have already guessed, this event is a race to the top of Pikes Peak—Colorado’s most famous 14,000 foot mountain.
Every year, race car drivers from all classifications compete in this extreme race to the top of Pikes Peak. And it seems every year, somebody drives off the side of a cliff.
Last year it was former IndyCar driver Bobby Regester running his car off the road at a point known as “The Devil’s Playground.”
(N.B.: any time something has “Devil” in the title, that’s bad.)
This year it was Jeremy Foley. His car ran off the mountain at the exact same spot as Regester did the year before. However, whereas Regester was miraculously able to walk away from the incident, Foley and his co-driver were sent to the hospital with serious but supposedly non-life-threatening injuries.
So, are you ready to see this epic crash?
Well, here you go:
Yep. That’s pretty much what you would expect from an auto race to the top of a mountain, isn’t it?
