by: JamieD On  Tuesday, August 14, 2012

phil hamelsIt took Cole Hamels until August 7th to record his first complete-game shutout of the season.  It didn’t take him nearly as long to record his second.

Hamels earned the “Stat Line of the Night” during his last outing, as he allowed just five hits and no earned runs during the Phillies’ 3-0 victory over the Braves.  This time it was the Marlins who couldn’t figure out Hamels, as they could only manage seven hits, one walk, and no earned runs against the lefty yesterday afternoon.  Hamels struck out a total of five batters through his impressive nine innings of work, as the Phillies cruised to the 4-0 victory over Miami.

With the win, Hamels now improves his record to 13-6 on the season, while lowering his ERA to a solid 2.91.  He has easily been the Phillies’ best starting pitcher this season, and for the second start in a row, he earns “The Stat Line of the Night,” this time for Sunday, August 13, 2012.
