Eagles Coach Andy Reid Got Into A Heated Argument With Cullen Jenkins During Last Night’s Preseason Game (Video)
Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid is usually a pretty even-keeled guy. But as we all know, this guy is trying to work through a devastating personal tragedy this season.
His oldest son, 29-year-old Garrett Reid, was found dead in a dorm room at the team’s training camp a few weeks ago following an apparent drug overdose. It was a tragic end to Garret’s 8-year struggle with addiction, and you’ve gotta figure his dad is still reeling a little bit.
So could this be the reason for the altercation between Reid and Eagles defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins on the sidelines of the Eagles-Patriots preseason game last night?
We can’t say for sure. But it certainly was uncharacteristic of Reid to lose his cool with a player in such a public fashion, especially during a meaningless preseason game. After all, this is one of the most highly respected individuals in the NFL.
The incident in question occurred after the Patriot’s second-string offence marched down field on the Eagles’ first-string defense for an 80-yeard, 13-play touchdown drive. So Reid was understandably annoyed. And when he went to explain his frustrations to the guy he considered his defensive leader, a nasty argument broke out.
Have a look:
Of course, after the game, both guys brushed it off. Reid told reporters, “He was fired up. I was fired up. Those things happen…We talked about it afterward, and we’re OK.”
Similarly, Jenkins said, “It’s football. Football causes that. If you’re out there playing, you’ve got to be emotional. It was nothing. Nothing was addressed.”
Still, the incident did raise a few eyebrows.
