Stat Line Of The Night — 8/21/12 — Adam Wainwright
After undergoing Tommy John surgery and missing the entire 2011 MLB season, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright found himself struggling to regain the form that saw him record 19 and 20 wins during the 2009 and 2010 seasons, respectively. However, it suddenly appears as though the 2010 All-Star is finding his groove once again, as he entered last night’s game with wins in each of his three August starts. As for his fourth start of the month, it was his most impressive yet.
Wainwright gave the Astros’ batters fits the entire evening, as he allowed only five hits and a walk while recording a season-high 12 strikeouts. He would remain in the game for all nine innings, recording his second complete-game shutout of the season during the Cards’ 7-0 victory.
With the win, Wainwright now improves his record to 12-10 on the season, while lowering his ERA to 3.65. And he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, August 21, 2012.
