Stat Line Of The Night — 8/22/12 — Adrian Beltre
Make no mistake about it. Alex Cobb of the Tampa Bay Rays is no David Price. Not even close. But he may someday be a special talent like his team’s ace currently is, and yesterday’s game certainly appeared to be a step in the right direction.
Cobb, 24, delivered what was probably the most impressive performance of his career, as the second-year pitcher recorded his the first complete-game shutout of his Major League career. He allowed only four hits and two walks in the process, while striking out eight, en route to the 5-0 victory.
With the win, Cobb improves his record to 8-8, while lowering his ERA to 4.32. He still has a long way to go if he wants to earn a place at the top of a team’s pitching rotation, but yesterday’s performance was a start, and it earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, August 23, 2012.
