Stat Line Of The Night — 8/29/12 — Yunel Escobar
The Toronto Blue Jays have been hit hard with injuries this season, and it has shown, as they were once contending for an AL Wild Card spot, but have since fallen to 13 games below .500 without the likes of Jose Bautista and Brett Lawrie in the lineup. It has been hard for the team to find a bat to replace the power that was usually provided by Bautista and Lawrie. On most occasions, it has been Edwin Encarnacion, but during last night’s game against the Yankees in the Bronx, it was Yunel Escobar doing his part to step up and fill the void.
Escobar has been having one of his worst seasons at the plate in 2012, but he looked more like the Escobar of old on Wednesday, as he was a solid 4-for-5 at the plate with a home run, three doubles and five RBIs during the Jays’ 8-5 victory.
It was probably Escobar’s best offensive outing from the entire 2012 season, and it earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, August 29, 2012.
