Things Got Pretty Heated Between The Cubs And Nats Last Night (Video)
Things got pretty heated last night between the Cubs and Nationals in Washington, DC, and on two separate occasions the tensions almost escalated into full-on brawls.
The first close call came in the bottom of the 5th inning, when Nationals third base coach Bo Porter got into a heated argument on the top step of the Cubs dugout with bench coach Jamie Quirk. That cleared the benches (both in the dugouts and the bullpens) and led to the ejection of Quirk.
Then, the next inning, Cubs pitcher Lendy Castillo stirred the passions up again by throwing way inside on Nationals superstar Bryce Harper. And so, for the second time in as many innings, the benches cleared.
However, despite all the animosity, the confrontations never really escalated into a true brawl. And when you think about it, it would have been crazy for things to go that far. The Nationals have the postseason to worry about. They don’t need any suspensions or broken hands. And the Cubs? They were 51-85 heading into play last night. What do they have to be fired up about? They’re pride? That team can’t even get shortstop Starlin Castro to face the right way when the pitcher throws to home plate. How much pride could they have?
Still, the confrontations were pretty heated and quite amusing. So check them out:
