Most of Lionel Messi’s highlight reel goals come during the run of play, as he has displayed an uncanny ability to zig-zag through defenders before chipping or curling the ball around the keeper on a regular basis. However, the Argentine superstar is also pretty good at burying the ball during set pieces, as he has proven one a few occasions over the past couple of weeks.
The first came late in August, during the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup final, as he slotted a left-footed free kick from about 30 yards out on Iker Casillas during Barcelona’s 2-1 loss to Real Madrid.
And he was at it once again, this time while playing for his country during a World Cup qualifying match against Paraguay on Friday, as he curled a free kick from a similar distance over the wall and just inside the short-side post, giving Argentina the 3-1 lead—a scoreline that would stand.
