Vernon Davis Gave Us The Year’s First Great Touchdown Celebration Fail (Video)
They say that those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it. And apparently the 49ers’ Vernon Davis is no historian.
You see, there have been a number of really embarrassing celebration fails over the years. Last year Marion Barber tried a backflip after scoring a touchdown, which didn’t turn out too well. And of course, earlier this summer CFL player Chris Williams gave us a premature celebration fail, much like the one Leon Washington gave us two years ago.
In fact, we’ve actually got a whole list of terrible touchdown celebrations—the point being that the humiliation that comes with screwing up an elaborate TD celebration is well-known. And despite all this bad press, Vernon Davis still thought he’d try his luck by doing the old slam-dunk-over-the-goal-post trick after scoring a crucial 3rd quarter touchdown yesterday against the Packers.
As you have no doubt surmised by now, he failed miserably.
Take a look:
Rejected by the crossbar. How embarrassing.
You know, at least when Terrell Owens was hamming it up for the 49ers, his little gimmicks were kind of fool proof. After all, there’s really no way you can mess up pulling out a sharpie and signing the football.
