Stat Line Of The Night — 9/10/12 — Joe Flacco
Stat Line Of The Night — 9/11/12 — J.J. Hardy
Heading into last night’s MLB action, the Baltimore Orioles found themselves in a highly unlikely position, as they were one game up on the Tampa Bay Rays for the final wild card spot in the American League, while sitting just one game back of the New York Yankees for top spot in the AL East standings. With a win against the Rays, they would not only move two games clear of their divisional foes in the wild card race, but they would also move into a tie with the Yanks for top spot in the division. And they got the job done, thanks in large part to the bat of J.J. Hardy.
Hardy entered the game with a terrible .233 batting average, but he came through when his team needed him most, recording a single, a double, two home runs and five RBIs in five plate appearances during the Orioles’ 9-2 victory over the Rays.
When the 2012 MLB season started, few would have imagined that the Orioles would find themselves on top of the AL East come September. But here they are, tied with the Yankees atop the toughest division in baseball, and they have Hardy’s terrific performance at the plate to thank, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, September 12, 2012.
