Stat Line Of The Night — 9/12/12 — A.J. Griffin
The Oakland Athletics have been quite the pleasant surprise this season, and the same can certainly be said about their 24-year-old starting pitcher, A.J. Griffin.
While the A’s entered last night’s game with an impressive 81-60 record (good enough for sole possession of the first AL Wild Card spot), Griffin entered the contest with an equally impressive 5-0 record of his own, and both he and his ball club would emerge victorious on this occasion.
Facing off against the Los Angeles Angels—who are one of the teams chasing them in the Wild Card race—Griffin was once again in fine form, as he allowed just six hits while striking out six batters during eight shutout innings of work. The Angels would eventually score a run in the ninth inning, with Griffin out of the game, but it was not enough, as the A’s escaped with the 4-1 victory.
With the win, Griffin is now 6-0 on the season with an impressive 1.94 ERA. If he keeps it up, he could become an integral part of the Athletics’ playoff run, but for now he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, September 12, 2012.
