Thierry Henry Scores Wicked Corner Kick “Olimpico” Goal (Video)
In Spanish, they call a goal scored directly off a corner kick “el gol olimpico” in reference to a goal scored by Argentina’s Cesáreo Onzari against Uruguay—the Olympic soccer champions—back in 1924. But in English? Well, both in the UK and North America, there’s never been a cool name for a corner kick goal besides, well, corner kick goal, which is lame. So recently we’ve taken to calling them olimpicos, too.
Whatever you want to call them, one fact remains the same: they’re always awesome. And the New York Red Bulls’ Thierry Henry scored one the other day.
Henry had already tied the game 1-1 last Saturday with a beautiful strike in the 10th minute. Then, 82 minutes later, in stoppage time, Henry struck again, this time putting the ball off the far goal post on a corner kick and into the back of the net.

Is that a thing of beauty, or what? This is the kind of thing that made Henry an international soccer superstar.
It’s also why there is this:
