Alex Ovechkin Was Backchecking And Making Big Hits In His KHL Debut (Video)
With the the end of the NHL lockout nowhere in sight, several players have headed overseas to play in the KHL and other European hockey leagues. Among those players who have fled North America is Alex Ovechkin, who made his debut with the KHL’s Dynamo Moscow earlier today. And while he was unable to record a goal in just under 18 minutes of action during his team’s 7-2 victory over Dinamo Minsk, he did notch an assist, and a rather unusual (at least by Ovechkin’s standards) open ice hit while backchecking.
We don’t have a clip of the assist, but we do have the hit. As for the victim of the check, that would be little-known Libor Pivko.
Check it out:
Pivko and the rest of the KHL players probably aren’t used to playing against a player like Ovechkin, but thanks to hits like this, that should change sooner rather than later.
