This Day In Sports History (October 5th) – Barry Bonds
It was on this day in 1956 that New York Yankees pitcher Don Larsen pitched a perfect game in Game 5 of the World Series. Larsen’s perfect game remains the only perfect game thrown in post-season baseball history.
The 1956 World Series was a battle of New York, as the Yankees took on the Brooklyn Dodgers in a rematch of the 1955 World Series. The Yankees would avenge their loss from a year before, winning the series in seven games on the strength of their outstanding pitching. After losing the first two games of the series, New York’s starting pitchers threw five straight complete games to help capture the franchise’s 17th World Series Championship.
Here is a clip of Don Larsen talking baseball.
