Check Out What Happens When A 68-Foot Canyon Jump Doesn’t Work Out As Planned (Video)
This afternoon, those of us who like to live vicariously through the dangerous exploits of others were disappointed to hear that Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner and the folks on his Red Bull Stratos team had to postpone his attempt at breaking the record for highest skydive for another day. The culprit? Excessively windy conditions.
Now we’ll all have to wait one more day to see if the dude really will be the first person to break the sound barrier in a free-fall.
However, if all you really want is to see somebody almost get killed competing in an extreme sports event sponsored by Red Bull, then I’ve got some good news for you. You don’t have to wait another day! You can simply watch this insane footage of extreme mountain biker Cam Zink trying to jump a 68-foot canyon…and wiping out.
Zink made the ballsy attempt at Red Bull Rampage 2012, an invite-only freeride mountain bike compeition held in Zion National Park in Utah, and we’ve got two separate camera angles to show you.
The first is a video shot by a spectator featuring Zink’s Homer Simpson-esque attempt at jumping the gorge. Check it out:
As for the second angle, that’s from a helmet cam worn by Zink. It shows not only the failed jump, but also the path he took down the mountain before reaching the canyon, which is in itself pretty death-defying. Take a look:
I don’t know about you, but after watching the helmet cam footage, I’m amazed he even made it to the ramp in the first place.
In any case, you’ll be happy to hear that, somehow, Zink was able to walk away from this epic wipeout under his own power, with only bruises on his heels.
