Stat Line Of The Night — 10/9/12 — Brett Anderson
Stat Line Of The Night — 10/10/12 — Raul Ibanez
Alex Rodriguez entered Game 3 of the Yankees' ALDS series against the Baltimore Orioles with just one hit and five strikeouts in nine at bats during his first two games of the series. And last night's performance was no better, as he failed to record a hit in his first three at bats, while striking out another two times. That was all Yankees manager Joe Girardi needed to see, as he did what several Yankees fans had been asking him to
do since the start of the series: remove A-Rod from the Yankees lineup.
Filling in for A-Rod in the designated hitter's spot was Raul Ibanez, and he made the most of his two at bats on the evening, as his first was a solo home-run in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game at 2-2, while his second was even more historic, as he became just the 11th Yankee player to hit a walk-off home run in the post-season with a solo shot in the 12th inning that gave New York the 3-2 victory.
With the win, the Yankees take a 2-1 series lead heading into Game 4 tonight at Yankee Stadium. As for Ibanez, his two home runs in two at bats likely earned him a spot in the Yanks' starting line-up, and it easily earned him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, October 10, 2012.
