Stat Line Of The Night — 10/22/12 — Marco Scutaro
Five days ago the San Francisco Giants’ chances of reaching the World Series for the second time in three years were not looking good. After all, they had just lost Game 4 of the NLCS by a score of 8-3, and with the Cards holding a commanding 3-1 series lead, the Giants would have to reel off three straight wins in order to have a shot at capturing the franchise’s seventh World Series title.
But these Giants are a resilient bunch, and after winning Games 5 and 6 over the weekend, they entered Game 7 last night with a perfect 5-0 record in elimination games this post-season, and momentum on their side. And they rode that momentum to a 9-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Leading the way was Marco Scutaro, who in addition to having himself an impressive Game 7 performance (3-for-4, one run, one walk), also earned NLCS MVP honors after batting .500 throughout the series with six runs and 4 RBIs. His 14 hits throughout the seven-game series tied an NLCS record, and it also earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, October 22, 2012,
