Fight During Thursday Night Football Left the Minnesota Vikings’ Jared Allen with a Bloodied Nose (Video)
For the most part, the previously undefeated-at-home Minnesota Vikings were sleep walking through their Thursday night matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The visitors jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, winning the game 36-17 and handing the Vikings their first home loss of the season.
So all in all, it was an uneventful night for the guys in purple. There was, however, one exception: in the 3rd quarter, trailing Tampa 30-17, the Vikings DE Jared Allen got into a skirmish with Bucs OT Donald Penn.
It started when Penn continued to block and manhandle Allen after the whistle. Allen obviously took exception to this and decided to go after the guy, and in the ensuing scuffle Penn knocks off Allen’s helmet and bloodies the bridge of his nose.
Here’s the video:
And here’s a pic tweeted by the Vikings of Allen’s bloody beak:
The refs gave both players unsportsmanlike conduct penalties after the fight, and it’s quite likely that the league will fine them.
However, Tampa QB Josh Freeman probably wishes both players had been ejected. Because right after the fight, a pumped up Allen responded by blowing right by Penn for the sack.
It didn’t help the Vikings rally for a victory, of course, but at least it gave the fans something to cheer about.
