Kyrie Irving Is Back As “Uncle Drew,” And He Brought Kevin Love With Him (Video)
Back in May, we told you about a new Pepsi Max commercial starring Cleveland Cavaliers guard and 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving.
Remember? Irving dressed up as an old man named “Uncle Drew,” then showed up at some random pick-up basketball game and blew everyone’s socks off with his monster jams and ankle-breakers.
It was all shot as though the basketball players and the people watching had no idea the old man was really an NBA star, but obviously it was just a well-made viral promotion.
(You didn’t think all those people somehow missed all the lights and cameras filming the game, did you?)
Well, guess what? Just in time for the 2012-13 NBA season, “Uncle Drew” is back. And this time he’s joined by his old buddy “Wes” and NBA legend Bill Russell.
We don’t get to see Russell in action, of course, because he is actually really old. But we do get to see “Uncle Drew” and “Wes”—who just so happens to be played by Minnesota T-Wolves power forward and Olympic gold medalist Kevin Love.
All in all, it’s a pretty good sequel. And yes, apparently commercials are now four minutes long and have sequels.
