It was on this day in 1994 that George Foreman took on Michael Moorer for Moorer’s heavyweight championship belts. After getting dominated the first nine rounds, Foreman knocked out Moorer in the tenth to win the WBA and IBF heavyweight titles.
By winning this fight, Foreman established three new impressive records: at age 45, he became the oldest man to ever be crowned world heavyweight champion; the age difference of 19 years between Foreman and Moorer was the largest of any heavyweight title fight; and he broke the record for longest gap between his first and second world championships, as he regained the belt that he had lost to Muhammad Ali over two decades ago.
With names like George Foreman, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and Michael Moorer, the early to mid 90’s were a great time to be a boxing fan. However, with the sport of MMA growing at a rapid pace, the days of boxing as a relevant sport seem to be behind us.
Here is Round 10 of Moorer vs. Foreman
