This Day In Sports History (December 6th) — Jerry Rice
It was on this day in 1992 that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice recorded the 101st receiving touchdown of his career. Rice broke the record which was previously held by Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Steve Largent.
It did not take Jerry Rice long to break this record, as he accomplished the feat in his eighth season. Largent, on the other hand, took 14 seasons to record his 100th touchdown. A couple of years later, Rice scored his 127th career touchdown to break Jim Brown’s all-time record, which stood for nearly 30 years. Jerry would finish his career with 207 total touchdowns, a record that still stands to this day.
The majority of Jerry Rice’s touchdowns came during his time with the San Francisco 49ers and were delivered to him by future Hall-of-Famers Joe Montana and Steve Young. With quarterbacks like that, it is no surprise that Jerry Rice is considered the greatest wide receiver in NFL history, hands down.
Here is a tribute to Jerry Rice.
