Stat Line of the Night — 12/06/2012 — Knowshon Moreno
Less than one month ago, Knowshon Moreno was buried on the Denver Broncos’ depth chart and a regular on the inactive list every Sunday, despite being perfectly healthy. But the 2009 first-round draft pick continued to work hard in practice, just in case he was given another kick at the can. And that opportunity finally came when starting running back Willis McGahee went down with an injury late in November. With few other options to turn to, the Broncos decide to promote Moreno from the bottom of their depth chart, to the top. And the move certainly appeared to pay dividends last night.
Taking on a weak Raiders defense, Moreno set a career-high in touches, as he carried the ball 32 times for 119 yards and a touchdown, while adding four receptions for 48 yards. It was a busy day for the 25-year-old back, as his hard running style helped the Broncos close out the 26-13 victory.
Following Thursday night’s performance, Moreno has now carried the ball 72 times for 273 yards and a touchdown in his three starts, all Broncos wins. His sudden emergence as a reliable running back has helped Denver improve their winning streak to an impressive eight games, and he also earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, December 6, 2012.
