It was on this day in 1977 that Super Bow XI took place in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.  The Oakland Raiders would defeat the Minnesota Vikings by a score of 32-14, earning the franchise their first ever Vince Lombardi Trophy.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Raiders took control of the game in the second quarter, scoring two touchdowns and a field goal to give themselves a 16-0 lead heading into the half.  The Vikings would close the gap in the third quarter thanks to a Sammy White touchdown reception, but the Raiders answered with a couple of touchdowns of their own in the fourth quarter, and they never looked back from there.

Raiders’ wide receiver Fred Biletnikoff had four receptions for 79 yards and he helped set up three of Oakland’s four touchdowns.  That was enough to earn him MVP honors, as he became the only wide receiver to receive the honor without recording at least 100 receiving yards.
