Serena Williams Hit Herself in the Face with Her Own Racket (Video)
When it’s all said and done, Serena Williams is going to be on the short list for “greatest women’s tennis player of all time.”
She doesn’t have as many Grand Slam singles titles as Steffi Graf or Martina Navratilova, but the only tournament she hasn’t won at least four times is the French Open. So it’s not like her total of 13 isn’t impressive. And of course, she has had to deal with a lot of injuries in recent years that have kept her off the court and hurt her conditioning. More to the point, when she is healthy and in top form, I don’t know if any of the other women can beat her.
And yet with all that said, the fact remains that Serena Williams is still human. So every once in a while, even she does something klutzy on the tennis court—like hit herself in the face with her own racket, which she did during her second round match against No. 112 player in the world, Garbine Muguruza, at the Australian Open earlier today.

Luckily, Serena’s fat lip didn’t slow her down. She still cruised into the third round with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
