It was on this day in 1983 that tennis great Bjorn Borg announced his retirement from tennis.  He was a former world No. 1 player and he won a total of 11 Grand Slam singles titles during his career.

Borg is considered by many to be one of the greatest male tennis players ever.  He won five consecutive Wimbledon titles between 1976 and 1980, a record that has since been tied by Roger Federer.  He  also won six French Open titles and he reached the US Open finals four times, but was unable to capture the Grand Slam title on American soil.

Borg would go on to win a total of 101 tournament titles during his career, with 64 of those being ATP titles.  He would also win 41% of the Grand Slam tournaments he entered (11 of 27), and in 1979 he became the first player in professional tennis to earn over one-million dollars in prize money in a single year.
