Stat Line of the Night — 1/31/2013 — Thomas Vanek
Thomas Vanek got off to a hot start last season, recording 14 points in his first nine game of the season, before eventually cooling down considerably and finishing with 61 points in 78 games. As for this season, describing Vanek’s start as “hot” would be an understatement. “Scorching” seems to be a much more appropriate term.
Vanek entered last night’s game against the Boston Bruins with ten points in his first five games of the lockout-shortened 2013 season, and he increased that total considerably by recording three goals and two assists during the Buffalo Sabres’ 7-4 victory over the Bruins.
The hat-trick was Vanek’s first of the season, and it was his second five-point performance in just six games. That places him alone atop the list of NHL point leaders, and it also earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, January 31, 2013.
