super bowl winning quarterbacks - quarterbacks who have won the super bowl

With Super Bowl XLVII officially in the books, there are now 30 Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks. Twenty of them won at least one Super Bowl MVP award, 11 are already in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, 3 are definitely headed there, and at least 4 have pretty good chances. So in other words, this is a pretty elite club. And today, in honor of its newest member—the Baltimore Ravens’ Joe Flacco—here’s a rundown of every quarterback to lead his team to a Super Bowl victory.

1. Bart Starr

MVP? Yes and yes

Hall of Fame? Yes

How do you follow up a victory in the first ever “Super” Bowl? Easy—a victory in the second ever “Super” Bowl.

2. Joe Namath

Team: New York Jets

Victorious in: Super Bowl III (1969)

MVP? Yes

Hall of Fame? Yes

Broadway Joe made the outlandish prediction that his “inferior” Jets from the “inferior” AFC would beat the might Colts in Super Bowl III. He was right.

Team: Kansas City Chiefs

Victorious in: Super Bowl IV (1970)

Team: Baltimore Colts

Victorious in: Super Bowl V (1971)

MVP? No

Hall of Fame? Yes

Super Bowl V was nicknamed “The Blunder Bowl” because of the poor play and 11 combined turnovers. For that reason also, the MVP of Super Bowl V was actually a member of the losing team: Dallas Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley. He was the first non-quarterback and the first defensive player to win the award. Of course, he didn’t accept it because, as he said, the award was meaningless after his team’s loss.

5. Roger Staubach
