Stat Line of the Night — 2/5/2013 — David Clarkson
Last night, the New York Rangers faced off against the New Jersey Devils for the first time since being eliminated by their bitter rivals during last year’s Eastern Conference Finals. And while the Broadway Blueshirts had revenge on their mind, they probably should have also been thinking about a way to shut down David Clarkson.
Unfortunately, they weren’t, and the result was two goals, one assist and a plus-2 rating for Clarkson during the Devils’ 3-1 victory over the Rangers.
Clarkson is well-known for his ability to accumulate penalty minutes, not points. But that appears to be changing, as he recorded a career-high 30 goals in 80 games last season, and he already has seven goals and 12 points in just nine games this season. Suddenly, it appears as though Clarkson has found his scoring touch, and on this occasion, it earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, February 5, 2013.
