Stat Line of the Night — 2/6/2013 — Viktor Fasth
The Anaheim Ducks have been quite the pleasant surprise this season, as they entered last night’s game with a 6-1-1 record through their first eight games. Equally surprising has been the play of their back-up goaltender, Viktor Fasth, who had allowed just four goals in his first three starts, all wins. His impressive showing between the pipes this season earned him a second straight start last night over the usual starter, Jonas Hiller, and the 30-year-old from Sweden made the most of it.
In just his fourth career NHL start, Fasth earned his first career shutout by stopping all 31 pucks that the Colorado Avalanche sent his way. As a result, the Ducks were able to come away with the 3-0 road victory, despite being outshot, 31-20.
With the win, the Ducks improve to 7-1-1 on the season, which is good enough for second in the Western Conference. As for Fasth, his record improves to 4-0, with a 0.98 GAA and a .962 save percentage. It may not be long before those numbers earn him the starting job in Anaheim, but for now he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, February 6, 2013.
