This Day In Sports History (February 11th) — Michael Jordan

by: CP On  Monday, February 11, 2013

It was on this day in 1996 that the 46th NBA All-Star Game was held at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.  The Eastern All-Stars won the game 129-118 over the West in front of 36,037 fans, the third largest crowd in All-Star Game history.

Michael Jordan would edge out Shaquille O’Neal to take home the game’s Most Valuable Player Award.  Jordan had 20 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal in just 22 minutes of action.  It was MJ’s second career All-Star Game MVP, and he would go on to win his third two years later at Madison Square Garden.  Bob Pettit is the only man with more All-Star Game MVP honors, with four, while Oscar Robertson, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant join Jordan with three apiece.

Here is a clip of some behind the scenes footage from the game.
