Stat Line of the Night — 2/21/2013 — Jonathan Huberdeau
When the Florida Panthers used their third overall draft pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft to select Jonathan Huberdeau, they were expecting big things from the forward from Saint-Jérôme, Quebec. And last night, in just his 16th career NHL appearance, Huberdeau delivered big things for the Panthers during a game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Huberdeau entered the game with nine points on the season, and he added another four to his total on Thursday. It all started with an assist on Peter Mueller’s opening goal of the game, and he would follow that up by successfully converting on a penalty shot attempt later in the first period to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Huberdeau would add another goal in the second period, and an assist in the third, as the Panthers emerged with the 5-2 victory.
With 13 points on the season, Huberdeau now ranks second in scoring among all NHL rookies. He should get plenty of consideration for Rookie of the Year honors, but for now he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, February 21, 2013.
