A 28-Year-Old Woman with No Football Experience Tried Out at the NFL Regional Combine on Sunday (Video)
Did you know that anyone can take part in one of the NFL’s regional combines if they pay the entrance fee? Seriously, anyone at all. No connections, no invitations, no football experience necessary. If you pay the money and show up on time, you can basically try out for the National Football League.
Well, a 28-year-old woman named Lauren Silberman knew that. In New Jersey on Sunday, she made history by becoming the first woman to take part in an NFL combine. The only problem is that it doesn’t look like Silberman was at all worthy of this distinction.
You see, ideally, it would have been nice to see someone who actually has succeeded in football become the first woman to try out for the NFL. There are plenty of young women who have competed against male athletes at both the high school and even the college level. These are the women who really deserved to be “the first.”
Silberman? Well, her intentions may or may not have been noble. Maybe she just wanted to get some publicity, like the doofuses who try out for American Idol. Or maybe she really was trying to break some ground in the name of women everywhere. However, regardless of her intentions, she kind of made a fool of herself.
How bad was it? Well, the best of her two kickoff attempts went a whopping 20 yards.
Have a look:
Now, Silberman said afterward that she’d injured her quad earlier in the week, and that she aggravated the injury on the first attempt. But the fact remains that Silberman has no football experience, and she was probably just looking to raise some publicity for her consulting firm, Double Play Media.
So, sorry actual female football players. You snooze, you lose.
