Stat Line of the Night — 3/4/2013 — Jeff Carter
After losing their first three games, and seven of their first ten to start the lockout-shortened season, the Los Angeles Kings’ chances of repeating as Stanley Cup champions were not looking good. But they have since turned things around, as they finished the month of February off with a five-game winning streak, and they recorded their eighth win in their last ten contests last night against the Nashville Predators thanks in large part to Jeff Carter‘s offensive outburst.
Carter opened the scoring with a powerplay goal in the second, and he followed that up by scoring the game’s second and third goals in the third period to finish off the hat-trick and give the Kings the 3-0 lead—a lead that they would not surrender, as Los Angeles cruised to the 5-1 victory over the Preds.
With the hat-trick, Carter now has 14 goals on the season, which is good enough to tie him with James Neal for second in NHL scoring (Steven Stamkos leads the league with 17 goals). He’ll certainly have his eyes set on the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy going forward, but for now he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, March 4, 2013.
