Big East Brawl: St. John’s and Notre Dame Exchange Punches Late in Game (Video)
Do you like a good basketball fight? Well, that’s good.
Last night in South Bend, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish men’s basketball team hosted the St. John’s Red Storm. The visitors did pretty well in the first half, taking a 26-22 lead into the locker room; however, the second half was a different story. The 24th-ranked Fighting Irish erupted for 44 points, holding St. John’s to a measly 14, closing out a 66-40 Big East victory.
Unfortunately, the Irish offense wasn’t the only thing that erupted. So too did the temper of St. John’s sophomore Sir’Dominic Pointer.
With just 1:46 left in the game, for some reason, Pointer and Notre Dame’s Cameron Biedscheid gave each other a little shove. Then Pointer took a big lunging jab at Biedschied, and it was on. The two scuffled while teammates, referees, and security personnel tried to intervene, but of course, both players were ejected and will now face NCAA suspensions.
Here’s a clip from the actual broadcast:
Here’s a clip from SportsCenter that shows the initial shoving match that started the fight:
And since this post wouldn’t be complete without an animated GIF of Pointer’s punch-lunge…here’s that, too:
Talk about Fighting Irish.
