Stat Line of the Night — 3/12/2013 — Dwight Howard
Nothing seems to motivate a basketball player quite like playing on the road against their previous team in front of the fans that they used to call their own. We’ve seen Vince Carter do it to the Toronto Raptors. We’ve seen LeBron James do it to the Cleveland Cavaliers. And last night, it was the Los Angeles Lakers’ Dwight Howard who was doing it to his former club, the Orlando Magic.
Making his first return to the Amway Center since being traded from the Magic to the Lakers in the offseason, Howard reminded those in attendance of the good times, as he recorded 39 points to go along with 16 rebounds, two assists, one steal and three blocked shots. In addition to lighting up the scoreboard, he also helped the Lakers emerge with the 106-97 victory.
With the win, the Lakers have now won four straight, moving them into sole possession of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. As for Howard, his performance against his old team earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, March 12, 2013.
