Stat Line of the Night — 3/19/2013 — Sergei Gonchar
Ottawa Senators defenseman Sergei Gonchar entered last night’s game against the New York Islanders with a seven-game point streak. He exited the contest with an eight-game point streak.
Gonchar has been on fire as of late, and it continued on Tuesday night, as he recorded the game-winning goal and added two assists to help lead the Sens to the 5-3 victory over the Isles.
Gonchar isn’t the only one streaking at the moment, as the Sens have also earned points in each of their last six games, and despite an abundance of injuries to key players, they still find themselves sitting comfortably within the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. They can thank Gonchar for some of that success, as he has stepped up his play on the blue line in the absence of last year’s Norris Trophy winner, Erik Karlsson. And his three-point performance on Long Island earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, March 19, 2013.
