Former Tennessee Titans Cheerleader Charge with Sexual Assault of a Minor
For the second time in the last 12 months, a former NFL cheerleader has been charged with sexually assaulting a minor.
Elizabeth Leigh Garner, who made headlines four years ago when she became a Tennessee Titans cheerleader at the ripe old age of 28, was arrested last week in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and later indicted on charges of sexual battery and solicitation.
Police say she was visiting a friend’s home when she followed a 12-year-old boy into a bathroom, fondled him, and tried to seduce him. Her excuse? Garner told police she was drunk and that she got the kid confused with a man that was also at the friend’s house.
That actually does sound kind of plausible. If she were wasted enough, and the kid was unusually large for a 12-year-old, I guess that could happen.
Of course, Murfreesboro police spokesman Kyle Evans makes a pretty good point. “That’s just absolutely no excuse for sexually assaulting a child,” Evans said. “If you can’t tell the difference between a 12-year-old and an adult then there are problems.”
Yeah, drinking problems.
Anwyay, outside court last week, WTVF — the CBS affiliate in that part of the country — spoke off camera to Garner and her husband (oh yeah, she’s married). They say she is innocent.
You have to feel sorry for the husband, don’t you? “My wife did not try to cheat on me with a 12-year-old boy. She tried to cheat on me with a grown man. That’s totally different.”
Anyway, in case you were curious, here is a shot of Garner from back in her cheerleading days:
