Lewis Hamilton Races for Mercedes Now, Stops In McLaren Pit Anyway (Video)
After finishing in second in the Formula One Drivers’ Standings in his first year with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes back in 2007, and first place in his sophomore season, Lewis Hamilton failed to finish on the final podium in each of his next four seasons. That led him to bid farewell to McLaren and make the move to the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team. But in just his second race behind the wheel of the Mercedes AMG at Sunday’s Malaysian Grand Prix, Hamilton decided to drop in on his old pit crew one last time, albeit, at perhaps the most inopportune moment.
Eight laps into the race, Hamilton was set to enter the pits and make his first tire change, but he accidentally stopped a few pits too early — in McLaren’s pit (of all places), where he had made his stops over the past six seasons.
Check it out:
Luckily McLaren’s pit was before Mercedes AMG’s, else Hamilton would have had to race around the track for another lap before making his way back into the proper pit.
Hamilton would go on to finish the race in third, making it easier for everyone to have a laugh over his blunder, including his girlfriend, Nicole Scherzinger. You can watch her have a chuckle in the replay below:
